Clearance Review
The responsibility of the MACC SL is not only to coordinate mine
clearance operations, but also to ensure that the landowners are
confident to use their cleared lands.
This Review, which commenced in August 2003, some months following
the handover of the Phase I and Phase 2 areas, is confirmation
to both the MACC SL and the UAE of the mine action process that
has taken place under Operation Emirates Solidarity.
The Review is being conducted by the MACC SL Community Liaison
staff in collaboration with UNDP, and has been made possible with
financial support from the Swiss government.
A secondary objective of the Post Clearance Review is to identify
any further development needs that are required to be fulfilled
in order for socio-economic development of the former occupied
areas to accelerate. These are highlighted in the Review reports
enabling the possibility for governments,NGO’s and civil
society institutions to contribute to the development of the region.
Principle questions asked of the landowners are:
1. Are you confident to use your cleared land?
2. If so, are you using your land and how is it being used?
3. If you are not using the land, why not?
The intention is to visit all cleared areas under Phases I, 2
and 3 and any future areas that may be cleared under the coordination
of the MACC SL.
The following are electronic versions of the Review findings
to date.
